Aurora shines in the clutch, shocks Team Liquid in epic MPL PH Season 16 clash

Aurora Gaming survived a classic encounter against Team Liquid, pulling off a gutsy 2-1 victory to break through in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 16 on Saturday at the Green Sun Hotel.

Aurora turned the tide late in Game 3 to escape the defending champions, bouncing back from its opening-day loss to Team Falcons to even its record at 1-1. The Cavalry, meanwhile, continued to struggle, dropping to 1-2.

Aurora struck first behind gold laner Jan "Domengkite" Del Mundo, whose masterful Harith delivered a sparkling six-kill, six-assist, one-death performance in Game 1.

However, the defending champs roared back in Game 2, with Kiel "Oheb" Soriano racking up five kills in Team Liquid’s commanding 8-1 stomp on his comfort pick Granger, leveling the series and forcing a deciding Game 3.

In Game 3, though, neither team was willing to back down.

Team Liquid was a heartbeat away from defeat, with minion waves swarming their base at the 21-minute mark, but Sanford "Sanford" Vinuya (Arlott) recalled just in time to save it, as both teams retreated from the Lord fight.

Team Liquid jungler Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno (Yi Sun-shin) then secured an uncontested Lord that allowed them to shatter Aurora's inhibitor turret in the bottom lane and threaten a comeback win.

Midlaner Kenneth "Yue" Tadeo proved crucial in the endjudul for Aurora, using Astral Echo before firing Astral Recall to pick off his counterpart, Alston "Sanji" Pabico's Pharsa, and instigate a three-man wipeout.

Aurora capitalized on the opportunity, even while missing two players, as the trio of Yue, Dylan "Light" Catipon (Hylos), and Domengkite (Harith) marched down the middle lane to close out the series.

Light, playing just his second judul with the team following his return from an overseas trip, claimed MVP honors in the 26-minute Game 3 clash after tallying three kills and 10 assists.
