Onic Philippines knocks out HomeBois to reach MSC playoffs

The two Philippine representatives are now heading to the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid-Season Cup playoffs after Onic booted out Malaysia's HomeBois, 2-0, in their do-or-die group stage encounter on Sunday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The dominant win allowed Onic to join compatriot Team Liquid Philippines in the knockout stage as they look to end the country's two-year title drought in the mid-year tournament.

Onic had a sluggish start in Game 1 with the Malaysian bets taking an early control of the gim with a 4-0 kill spread led by jungler Muhammad "Eyymal" Azemy (Joy).

But Onic flipped the switch late as gold laner Duane "Kelra" Pillas orchestrated a triple kill on his Granger just before the 13-minute mark.

Cyric "K1NGKONG" Perez then used the Phantom Execution to take down HomeBois' Izanamiyeyo (Pharsa) as Onic completed the Game 1 reversal.

Onic was just too much for HomeBois in Game 2 as the Malaysians allowed Kelra to have another Granger pick that saw the Pinoy gold laner unleash a spotless 6/0/6 KDA en route to the sweep win.

Onic and Team Liquid will have a chance to end the Philippines' dry spell in MSC.

The last time the country ruled the tournament was in 2022, when RSG Philippines swept RRQ Hoshi of Indonesia in the finals.

Since then, the title became elusive for the Filipinos with ONIC Indonesia capturing the title in 2023 and Malaysia's SRG ruling in last year's edition.
